Kerttu Kersen 95 of Coventry passed away on June 23, 2022. She was born March 23, 1927 in Manhattan, New York City the daughter of Jussi Karhu and Lahja Kovaluma. She moved to Coventry in 1952 with her late husband, John A Kersen Sr. Kert worked as a Medical Technologist for 37 years and retired from Windham Hospital as the Technical Director of the Lab in 1986. As those who knew Kert knew she was always helping others, she volunteered at the hospital, Hospice, Literacy Volunteers of America, Red Cross Bloodmobile, and the Thrift Shop. She held offices in AARP and the Senior Center of Coventry. As a long-time member of the First Congregational Church of Coventry she sang in the choir and served on many committees and boards. She was a traveler; she’s been on numerous trips all over the world. Not only did she love to travel she was also an avid card player and had many friends.
She is survived by three children, Kristine Kersen of Albuquerque, NM, John Kersen of Willimantic, CT, and Karen and her husband Thomas Smith of Columbia, CT. She is also survived by two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Jamie and her husband Jay Kegler of Coventry with their children Hailie and Jason Jr. Zach Knick and Jennifer Levi of Albuquerque, NM.
There will be no calling hours, burial services will be private.
