Kenneth John Topich, 59, of Mansfield, lost a courageous battle with cancer on Sunday March 23, 2003 at the Mansfield Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation surrounded by family. He was born September 27, 1943 in Stafford Springs, the son of the late James and Barbara Topich. Kenny retired in 1997 with over 36 years of service from UConn Farm Services as an Assistant Farm Manager. He did part time work for Tony's Garage and Zenny's restaurant. He also did carpentry and landscaping work and was a member of the Moose Lodge #1440 in Chaplin. He loved to fish and hunt, did a lot of traveling and was an avid sports fan of football, Nascar Racing and the UConn basketball teams. He leaves 2 sons, James Toczko and his wife Michelle of Sterling, VA, Kevin Toczko and his wife Janeth of Potomac Falls, VA, 5 grandchildren, Nathan, Andrew and Noah; Joshua and Jacqueline. He also leaves a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Charles Zemek of Storrs, 6 neices and nephews, Sally, Karen, Colleen, Michael of Maine, Gary and Roger, a great nephew, Nicholas of Storrs several cousins in CT, Ohio and many close friends. He was predeceased by a brother, Herman Topich in 1999. His family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. Willimantic TODAY from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. There will be a gathering at the funeral home on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. prior to the procession to his Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Chapel, North Eagleville Rd. Storrs. Burial will follow in Storrs Cemetery.
