Kenneth Noble Hall, of Storrs, died on October 23rd surrounded by family, at home after a long illness with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Juanita (Conover) Hall, of 51 years. He was born on September 18, 1935 in Lawrence, Mass., the son of John Stecker Hall and Mary (DeFrancisco) Hall. He grew up on a farm in Freedom, Maine. He received a BS from the University of Maine, an MS from the University of Maryland, and PhD from Washington State University. He served in the Army in Okinawa, Vietnam, and remained active in USAR, and retired as a colonel. In 1966, Ken joined the Poultry Science Department at the University of Connecticut where he taught food science and nutrition courses. He also worked in food preservation and food safety through the Cooperative Extension Service. In 1990 he took a sabbatical to Washington DC. where he worked for the USDA. He retired in 1997 as a professor emeritus. Ken participated and served significantly in the Masonic fraternity for 29 years. Among Ken's other interests, he tapped many trees to make maple syrup, had a large garden, and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved the outdoors and spent many summers hiking and camping in Maine, including climbing Mt. Katahdin, Maine, 4 times, most recently to celebrate his 70th birthday. He was a man of ingenuity, able to inventively fix and create mechanical solutions to any problem, often coming to the aide of neighbors and friends. Ken and Juanita have 4 wonderful children: Deanna Laflamme, Andrea Hall-Rodgers, Kenneth Hall, Laurel Mauroy, their spouses and 8 grandchildren. The family appreciates all the attention and caring of the Hospice of Eastern Connecticut, friends, and the Storrs Congregational Church. We will be honoring Ken's life at the Storrs Congregational Church, 2 North Eagleville Rd, Storrs, CT. on Wednesday, October 28 at 1:30pm with a reception to follow.
