Kenneth Ernest Ekwurtzel, the devoted husband of the late Clara Mitchell Ekwurtzel, passed away in his home on April 24, 2014 at the age of 94. He was born on February 1, 1920 to Ella and Fingal Ekwurtzel of New Britain, CT. He was predeceased by his brothers Roy Ekwurtzel, Leonard Ekwurtzel, Donald Ekwurtzel, and his sister Vivian Ekwurtzel Hewett. Through his brothers and sisters, he had a large and loving extended family. Kenneth was a respected foundry man, and a longtime member of the Newington Congregational Church. Kenneth appreciated the arts, in particular the talents of his wife Clara. He was dedicated to his family, and was especially proud of his five grandchildren: Anna Ekwurtzel Calhoun, Caroline Nicole Ekwurtzel, Karl Erik Ekwurtzel, Thomas Michael Boyle, and Charles Kenneth Boyle as well as his two great grandchildren Claire Chamberlain Calhoun and Jack McGovern Calhoun. He was greatly loved by his children Gail Ekwurtzel, Thomas Elliott Ekwurtzel, and Lurene Ekwurtzel as well as his daughter-in-law Katie Walsh Ekwurtzel, and his son-in-law Michael Thomas Boyle. He leaves behind his beloved sister-in-law Alice Meyer Mitchell and his nephews Charles Mitchell and John Mitchell. A memorial service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ken's memory may be made to the Saxon B.
