Kathleen Baker Obituary
Kathleen (Pradel) Baker of Ashford, CT passed away in Hartford Hospital on June 22, 2021, at the age of 83, though she fought in her characteristically fierce way to remain with her beloved family. We write this obituary with great sadness and with the knowledge that it does little justice to describing all of her “awesomeness,” as she would put it: her passion for life, philanthropy, intense love for friends and family—particularly her husband Ray of more than 60 years—, and endearing willfulness.
Kathy was born in Stafford Springs on March 8, 1938, to a Roman Catholic family. Although she did not regularly attend church, she kept her faith close throughout her life. In her later years she remained passionate about many things—hosting picnics with family and friends, camping in their motorhome with Ray, caring for her garden and many flowers (especially Irises), and watching birds. Kathy cared deeply about the “underdog” and could often be found shouting threats at the sparrows to leave the swallows and bluebirds alone. She enjoyed both baking and caring for others so much that Kathy would send baked goodies to Cheryl’s work when she and Ray couldn’t eat sweets. Her mischievous sense of humor kept Carl and Ray on their toes. She will be missed by all that knew her.
Kathy is survived by her husband Ray, daughter Cheryl and partner Barry, son Carl and wife Karen, grandchildren Hannah, Alyssa and partner Sam, Sarah and husband Dan, Ray and fiancée Molly, and great grandchildren Hailey, Emma, Bentley, Lexi, Ariana, and Rosie, and her shared fur baby Fiero. Donations in her name may be made to the charity of your choice.
