Karin L. Norton

Karin Lee Norton (Norton-O'Connor), 56, of Willington, CT, formerly of Simsbury, CT, passed away at her home on September 3, 2010 in the company of family and friends after her second valiant battle with cancer. She was born July 12, 1954 in Winchester, Virginia to Thomas W. and Jo Ann Norton. Karin had many interests, passions, and causes - the one that stands out is her love of gardening. When not gardening, her interests focused on helping people. Trying to make the world a better place was woven into the fabric of her life and demonstrated through her many activities including: driving a donated ambulance loaded with medical supplies to Nicaragua as part of the Women's Convoy; participating in peace demonstrations with her beloved grandparents; donating her time at the UConn radio station where her "Songs for Peace and Justice" show could be heard; and putting her time and energy into trying to bring a viable third party to relevance. Karin attended Northeastern University and received her Bachelors and Masters of Social Work from the University of Connecticut. She went on to earn the designation of LCSW. She worked as a Medical Social Worker for Day Kimball Hospital Home Care and CT VNA and Hospice & Palliative Care. In her early working years, she spent nearly a decade employed by the Mansfield Training School. In addition to her parents, Karin leaves behind her beloved partner Raymond O'Connor, her sisters Cherie Norton of Center Conway, NH and Lucinda W. Tindall of Durham Furnace, PA.; her nieces and nephew; Alexa Smith, Dana Tindall and Bergen Tindall; as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, and an extensive network of friends.
