June Salamy Krisch

June Salamy Krisch, 80, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away unexpectedly on December 16th. June was born in Brooklyn, NY, on May 22, 1938, to the late Simon Salamy and Ethel Dahir Salamy. June is survived by her husband of 52 years, Henry Krisch, her sister, Miriam Zahka, her children, Jennifer Krisch and Daniel Krisch, her daughter-in-law, Sophia Gintoff Krisch, and her four cherished grandchildren: Dylan, Mary, Felix, and Evelyn. June graduated from Fort Hamilton High School in Brooklyn, NY, in 1956, and received a B.A. from Connecticut College in 1960. June taught geography and social studies at Charles Evans Hughes High School in New York City from 1962-1968. After obtaining a post-graduate degree in education, June spent nearly three decades as the guidance counselor at Bolton (CT) High School, where she touched thousands of young lives. June served from 1981-1988 on the Mansfield (CT) Board of Education. After June retired in 2005, she volunteered at the Classical Magnet School in Hartford and for several charitable organizations in eastern CT. June was a woman of strong principles, deep compassion, and boundless love. These traits shone through in June?s professional life and volunteer work, her civic involvement, and, most recently, her work helping to resettle refugees from the civil war in Syria. June read widely, traveled frequently, cooked passionately, and relished the company of her family and many friends. She is loved and will be missed. June?s family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday December 20th from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195), Willimantic, CT.
