Julius J. Tlustohowicz

Julius J. Tlustohowicz, 83, of Willimantic, died Monday evening July 30, 2007 at St. Joseph Living Center, Windham. He was born in Southington to Walter and Eva Tlustohowicz. Julius served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 as an aviation machinist. He was assigned to VPB aircraft participating in extensive combat missions in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater against the Japanese. He received many citations for heroism including the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal. In 1957, Julius graduated from University of Connecticut with a BS Degree. Following his graduation, the university hired him, which lead to a 29 year career there, retiring in 1986 as Research Associate for the Nutritional Science College of Agriculture & Science Resource Department. Julius was a member of the Willimantic Country Club and a communicant of St. Joseph Church, Willimantic. He was predeceased by his wife Eleanor (Huckins) Tlustohowicz in 2002 and was the last of his immediate family. There will be no calling hours. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday Aug. 7th at 10:00am at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St. Willimantic, with assembly at the church. Interment will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Southington. Please omit flowers. Memorial donations are suggested to American Cancer Society, 106 Rte. 32, Franklin, CT. 06254.
