Julio Vazquez

July 4, 1942 — December 3, 2025

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Julio Vazquez, of Chaplin CT, who passed away peacefully on December 3rd, 2025, at the age of 83 years. He was born in Rural Barrio Guadiana, Naranjito Puerto Rico on July 4th, 1942. He was son to Eladio Vazquez Cabrera and Gregoria Rivera Vazquez, grandson of Fernando Vazquez and Dominga Rivera, all native of Barrio Guadiana. He grew up with a loving family of three sisters and many cousins who didn't have much but had each other.

After he graduated from the University of Puerto Rico with a degree in accounting, he joined the U.S. Army, where he would meet his future brother-in-law, Richard Crowley. He served from May of 1964- 1966 and continued to serve for several years in the Army reserves after that. He moved to CT, where he met, and married Carolyn Greene. They raised two daughters together and had a full marriage of 17 years. Julio worker for Pfizer at this time, and with Carolyn owned a restaurant named El Morro in Wallingford, CT. After the two divorced, Julio would go on to work for the state of CT at Long Lane School. He met Mary Simmons, whom he'd have his son with. Mary and Julio loved and were partners for many years. They nurtured many animals on their farm, such as horses, goats and chickens. They would remain close friends after their relationship. Julio retired from Long Lane and moved to Chaplin and built another farm. He thrived there for years, tending to his horses, goats, and livestock. He cherished his dogs, who he adored, and referred to them as his "family". He loved to travel and found joy in staying connected with family and friends.

Julio is survived by his first wife Caroly Petronella and their daughters, Christina Bouchard and her husband Jean, and Vanessa Vazquez, he is survived by his former partner and lifelong friend Mary Simmons and their son, Jonathan Vazquez. He is also survived by his two grandsons, Jared Murano and Devyn Bouchard.

In addition, Julio is survived by his brother-in-law, Richard Crowley of Roxbury, his four sons, Kevin, Gerald, Richard Jr., and Patrick, as well as their wives and children.

Julio is also survived by his cousins Awilda and Beatriz Espinell, Emelia Espinell Narvaez and family, Aleida Ortega, his lifelong friend Rafael Morales, all of Barrio Guadiana, and Jorge Oliveras and family of Kissimmee, FL.

Julio was predeceased by his parents, and his sisters Irma Vazquez Espinell, Ramona Vazquez Torres, and Luz Nery Vazquez Crowley.

Julio's family gives their deepest gratitude to his hospice team, and the people who comforted, aided, and cared for Julio in his final days. Your Kindness will never be forgotten.
