Judith Dyer Obituary
After a long life dedicated to friends, family and her community, Judith L. Dyer, age 81 of Windham, CT, passed away peacefully at her home on July 12, 2023.
She was born December 15, 1942 in Windham, CT. She was a Fine Arts Major and studied Individualized Art Therapy at MCC. Judy started work at Mansfield Training School and continued to work in numerous group homes over the years as it was her passion to help take care of people in need. With her generous nature, Judy also loved donating to many causes and charities far and near that were dear to her heart and wanted to help make a difference.
She loved gardening and reading. Judy had a sweet tooth and liked her special treats such as lobster tails and she also enjoyed an occasional meal of oysters and sweet potato fries from one of her favorite local places, the Fish Market. She was a bead and jewelry enthusiast and one of her may passions and talents was to create beautiful jewelry that she enjoyed selling at the Mansfield Flea Market and other venues over the years. She enjoyed weaving, fiber and leather arts as well. Judy was also a self proclaimed shopaholic who never met a bargain she could pass up. Sale markdown, clearance and reduced-price signs were her "language".
Judy was a very special person and will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Judy leaves behind a special cousin, Bev Magoan; dear friends Richard Shashok and Michelle Landrie as well as her caretaker, Sheila and her brother James Dyer, of Coventry, CT.
She was predeceased by her parents, Kathryn and Wilmot Dyer, and brother Ralph Dyer and her long-time best friend Karen Shashok.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at 10:00am at Storrs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers Judy would appreciate any donations made in her honor to Camp Horizons in Windham, CT.
