Juan Antonio Nunez

Juan Antonio Nunez, 89, died Thursday, March 2, 2016. Juan Antonio Nunez was born in a small quaint town in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico where he grew up. At the age of 18 he joined the United States Army and fought proudly in World War II. Juan whose nickname was Paoli embodied the American Dream. Following the end of World War II he returned to Puerto Rico and married "the most beautiful woman in the village", Carmen Nunez. He then borrowed $60 from a businessman in his hometown so that he could travel to the continental United States and make a better life for his family. With that money he took his wife and small children to New Jersey where he lived for 40 years. During that time, he worked proudly as the Foreman of Fedders Air Conditioning Company. He was a true liaison between the needs of the workers and the corporation and he was well loved. After work Juan often cared for his 5 grandchildren, providing them with dinners and car service to their sports practices. He was the best grandfather a child could ask for. Juan retired at the age of 65 and returned to Puerto Rico where he lived for over 20 years. Juan lived the American Dream and was able to buy a large beautiful home in his hometown of San Sebastian, Puerto Rico. He also repaid that business man who had lent him $60 so many years ago. He provided a better life for his family than he ever had. Juan returned to the continental United States at the age of 87 and lived in Willimantic Connecticut close to his daughter, Elsa Nunez, and his grandson Antony Wormack. Juan's memory will live on with his family. He is survived by his wife Carmen of 70 years, daughter Elsa Nunez, grandchildren: Antony Wormack, Maria Forrest, Diana Nunez, Kristina Nunez, and Juan Nunez as well as 6 great grandchildren. Services will be held Monday, March 21, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. at Sagrado Corazon Church, 61 Club Rd., Willimantic, CT. Interment will be held at CT State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Ln., Middletown.
