Joycelyn Erho Calande, 72, died April 19, 2011, in Columbia, CT with her family at her side after a long and courageous battle with ovarian cancer and lymphoma. She was born May 2nd 1938 in Bristol, Ct to the late Yvonne and John Erho. Joycelyn was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She enjoyed reading, classical music, gardening, the outdoors, traveling and painting. A graduate of UConn, Joycelyn had worked as a teacher, a scientific illustrator for Yale's Peabody Museum and ultimately as a Fine Artist. She was very active in the local art community and was a resident artist at the Windham Arts Collaborative in Willimantic. As an artist she exhibited in many states and in Europe. Her art won her awards in watercolor, oils, print making and drawing. Her work was often inspired by nature and reflected a lifelong fascination with pattern and texture and the effects pure light has on our natural surroundings. Joycelyn is survived by her beloved sister, Cynthia Erho of Columbia, CT/Greenfield, MA, sons, Christian, John, Steve and Eric, eight grandchildren and a large extended family. Calling hours will be on Monday, April 25th, 6pm to 8pm and Tuesday April 26th, 10am to 10:30 am at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Rte.195, Willimantic prior to the procession to her Funeral Mass at 11am at St. Columba Church, Jct.
