Joyce (Wilson) Safranek, 83, of Coventry, wife of Clifford Safranek, passed quietly at Douglas Manor in Windham on Saturday, September 24, 2011 with her family present. She was born October 21, 1927 in Coventry, the daughter of LeRoy and Katherine (Becker) Wilson and grew up in Willington. She attended local schools starting with the first grade in the one room East Willington School and went on to graduate from Windham High School. As a teenager she volunteered as an aircraft spotter during World War Two. She worked for a time in the personnel office of the American Thread Company and then as a medical claims processor for Traveler's Insurance. Joyce was a charter member of the Captain Noah Grant Chapter of the D.A.R. She enjoyed family vacations to Lake Winnipesaukee and motor coach tours that took her to destinations in 21 states, the Great Lakes and cities in Canada. She will be remembered for the love of her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her husband of 64 years, she is survived by two daughters, Eileen Colwell and her husband Theodore of South Windham, Nancy Dickerman and her husband Bruce of Windham Center, four grandchildren, Adrienne Plourde, Meredith Colwell, Andrew Dickerman and Katherine Erismann, five great grandchildren, her sister Gloria Hunter and her husband Judson, and her brother Roger Wilson and his wife Marlene. She was predeceased by her brother Richard Wilson of Willington. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 1st at 2:00 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Willimantic, 199 Valley St. Burial will be private in Willington. There are no calling hours.
