STORRS - E. Joyce Roscoe, 89, beloved mother and grandmother, died on Sunday (March 31, 2013) at Windham Hospital. Her husband of 53 years, Rusty, passed away in 1998. Joyce was born on November 14, 1923 in Windham, the daughter of Ellsworth and Helen Weeks. Her early years were spent in the Windham area and she moved to Storrs in her teens. After graduating from Windham High School she was employed at the University of Connecticut. While raising her family she also worked in Real Estate, followed by many years with the Mansfield Public Schools. Following retirement she was a longtime volunteer for the Mansfield Senior Center. Joyce was a 60 year member and past Matron of Climax Chapter #98 O.E.S. and a lifetime member of the Grange. She was a 72 year member of the Storrs Congregational Church where she was active in Women's Fellowship and the Choir. She and Rusty were members of the Connecticut Chapter of the National Camping Travelers and enjoyed many adventures throughout the United States. Joyce's hobbies included crafting, quilting, reading and crossword puzzles. She was a talented musician and singer. A special love was spending time at the family cottage at Mashapaug Lake . Joyce is survived by her children, Linda Bissell and her husband Roger of Tolland and Larry Roscoe and his wife Carol of Spokane, WA, grandchildren, Scott Bissell and his wife Kristin of Glastonbury, Brenda Waterhouse and her husband Matthew of Coventry, and her beloved great-grandchildren, Maya, Ellie, Corey, and Olivia who brought much joy to her heart. Joyce was predeceased by her sister Eleanor Perkins and her brother Ernest Weeks. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who were all very dear to her. The family would like to thank the staff at Windham Hospital for their excellent and compassionate care. Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 5, 2013 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195), Willimantic. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Storrs Congregational Church in Storrs, CT. Burial will follow at Storrs Cemetery.
