Joyce Lorraine (Emery) Semagin
Joyce Semagin, 93, passed away on September 12, 2024. Joyce was born to Alice Bridget (Sheehan) Emery and Selden Wakefield Emery on October 25, 1930. Joyce grew up in Biddeford, Maine. As a child, Joyce became proficient in piano, which she played all her life, and taught for many years. As a young adult, Joyce moved to Hartford, CT, where she studied art (sculpture and portraiture). Later in life, she graduated in interior design from the Paier School of Art in Hamden, CT.
In addition to her parents, Joyce was predeceased by her daughter Hope Rice, and four siblings and their spouses: David (Muriel) Woodbury, John (Stella) Woodbury, Patricia (Alfred) Farah, and Jaqueline (Howard) Byll.
Joyce leaves her son and his spouse, Randy Semagin and Grace Damio, grandchildren Erin Semagin Damio and Kevin Semagin Damio (Rochelle BaRoss), and one great-grandchild, Howell Semagin. Joyce was deeply involved in her grandchildren’s lives since infancy, and they have been a great source of joy. Additionally, she leaves niece Alycia Nesbitt and nephews Ken Woodbury and Dave Woodbury.
Joyce lived the last 32 years at Juniper Hill Village in Storrs, CT, where she enjoyed close friendships and supported many people with sewing and transportation to needed services.
Joyce was thoughtful, caring, talented, creative, and intelligent, She was passionate about current issues and politics, and often entertained those around her with a funny line or a good joke. She will be deeply missed by many family members and friends.
Joyce’s family express their deep appreciation to the staff of Juniper Hill Village, and to the staffs of the Mansfield Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation and Hartford Health Care at Home Hospice Care.
A memorial gathering for Joyce will be held on Sunday, September 22, 2024, 2:00-4:00 PM, at Juniper Hill Village Four Seasons Room, 1 Silo Circle, Storrs, CT.
