Josephine B. Eaton

January 19, 1909 — March 17, 2010

Josephine B. Eaton, 101, of Mansfield Center, Josie, Joie, Jo, Ma, Mom, Gram and Puma as she was known and loved by her family and friends, passed away peacefully on Wednesday March 17, 2010. She was one of thirteen children born to Alma and Vital Bouchard of Fort Kent, Maine. She is survived by a brother, Leon, two children, Kermit and Gail, (her oldest child, Conrad, passed away in 2008), eleven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She grew up on the family farm in Fort Kent, Maine and moved at the age of 16 to Hartford to seek employment. She lived in Hartford with her two sisters, who had previously moved there. It was in Hartford where she met her former husband, Howard Eaton. They lived in Willimantic briefly before moving to the Mansfield area where she lived for the rest of her life. Her unconditional love and generosity for her family was her most extraordinary quality and one for which she will be dearly missed. Joie had many lifelong friends -- many acquired through her love of singing and dancing. She was a popular member of Mansfield Senior Center Chorus. She was also very accomplished at needlework and won prizes at the Big E for her hooked rugs. Her family and friends will remember her fun-loving nature and infectious laugh. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. Her family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday March 20th between 10:00 and 11:00am at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic, prior to her 11:30am Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St. Willimantic. Interment will follow in Mansfield Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SCADD, 37 Camp Moween Road, Lebanon, CT 06249 or a charity of your choice.
