Joseph J. Wupperfeld, 77, of South Windham, husband of Ellen (Craig) Banholzer Wupperfeld, died Friday Feb. 17, 2006 at Windham Hospital. He was born April 15, 1928 in Norwalk. Mr. Wupperfeld was a Korean War U.S. Army veteran and was retired from Superior Plating in Fairfield. He was a 50 year member, former assistant chief and chief of the Newtown Volunteer Fire Company. He was a past president of YE Connecticut Gun Guild, past president of Stratford Gun Collectors, former member of Company of Military Historians and member of the Canadian Medal Society. In addition to his wife he is survived by 4 children, Barbara Nunes and her husband Russell of Shelton, John Banholzer and his wife Wendy of Bellows Falls, VT., Craig Banholzer and his wife Mary of Springfield, VT. and Beth Wade and her husband Ronald of Stratford; a brother Sonny Bartram, 9 grandchildren, 4 aunts and several cousins. His family will receive friends at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic on Monday between 6:00 and 8:00pm. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11:00am at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St. Willimantic, with assembly directly at the church.
