Joseph A. Moran

Joseph A. Moran, 82, of Columbia, formerly of Willimantic, husband of Catherine (Cour) Moran, died Sunday, March 5, 2006 in Windham. He was born August 8, 1923 in Willimantic, the son of Edward and Margaret (Conway) Moran and had lived in Willimantic all his life until moving to Columbia 5 years ago. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a P.O.W. in Germany for 18 months. Mr. Moran was the manager of the A. & P. Grocery stores in Willimantic and Storrs for 40 years. In addition to his wife he is survived by 2 children and their spouses, John and Debra Moran of South Windham, Judy and Thomas Card of Plantation, Florida, a sister Elizabeth Marrotte of Willimantic, 4 grandchildren, Ross and Colin Moran, Dawn and Laura Card, a great grandson Thomas Decker, many nieces and nephews, including Danny Marrotte. He was predecease by a son Joseph Michael Moran, 2 sisters, Margaret Smith and Doris Marrotte, 2 brothers, James Moran and Edward Moran. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, March 11, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St., Willimantic. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St., Willimantic CT 06226 or to the American Cancer Society, 238 West Town St., Norwich, CT 06360.
