Joseph A. Gallant Jr., 67, of Brooklyn, died Saturday, October 15, 2011 at Harford Hospital. He was born October 21, 1943 in Willimantic, the son of the late Joseph and Mabel (Squire) Gallant and grew up in the Windham area. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and employed as a merchant seaman for a time after that. Prior to his retirement he was employed as an automotive mechanic for many years. Joseph was a member of the American Legion, the V.F.W. and the French Club. He is survived by four children, AnnMarie Gallant of Ashford, Joseph Gallant of Chicopee, MA, Cindy Beaudry of Willimantic and John Gallant of West Springfield, MA, his stepmother, Arlene Gallant of Brooklyn, his former wife and the mother of his children, Frances McElroy of Brooklyn, three sisters, Joann Johnson of West Springfield, MA, Rosemary Petrovics of Willimantic and Debra Whitaker of Shepardstown, WV, nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his stepfather John Petrovics. His family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, October 20, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Rte. 195, Willimantic.
