John A. Wrana Sr

September 16, 1909 — February 4, 2002

John A. Wrana Sr. 92, died peacefully at home Monday February 4, 2002. He was born in Gurleyville, September 16, 1909, the son of John and Mary Wrana. He leaves his wife of 68 years, Elsie (Ladd) Wrana, 2 sons, John Wrana Jr. of North Windham, Richard Wrana of Columbia, 2 daughters, Nancy O'Connor of Scotland and Judy Wrana of Willimantic and a sister, Rose (Wrana) Olds of Willimantic. He was the loving grandfather of 11 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Mr. Wrana ran the Wirthmore Feeds Store on Main St. and Moulton Court for 30 years and was the Executive Director of the Willimantic Chamber of Commerce, retiring in 1974. He was also the bookkeeper for Mountain Dairy retiring seven years ago. He actively served his community in many capacities. Mr. Wrana was a former mayor of Willimantic, a member of the board of directors of the Windham Hospital and Hatch Hospital Corporation, the United Way, a member of the Rotary Club for many years and was a 70 year member of Echo grange #180. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church, serving as Sunday School Superintendent, a member of the Board of Trustees and held a lay preacher's license for 50 years and preached in many area churches. John had a full and active life and enjoyed lovingly serving his family and community. His family rejoices that he is now with the Lord. A memorial service will be held February 16th at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Puddin Lane, Mansfield. Burial will be private in the Storrs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Home and Shelter, c/o Sister Peter, 88 Jackson St. Willimantic, CT 06226 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
