John W. Elliott, age 76, of Storrs, died peacefully on Thursday December 16 in the presence of his family. He was born August 17, 1934 in the town of Putnam, Connecticut to the late Harold and Lucinda (Whitman) Elliott. John is retired from the United States Marine Corps and the United States Postal Service. He served in the USMC from 1951 to 1971 and earned the distinguished Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a member of the Jewish War Veterans Post 45 and an active participant at the Rocky Hill Veterans Home and Hospital. John is survived by his daughter Rachel (Kate Alexander); daughter and husband Shera and Jim; daughter Jessica and son-in-law Steve, all from Coventry; five grandchildren Amy, Julie, Dominick, Coralyn, and Stevie; sister Marilyn Barrette (Harvey), niece Laura Young, nephew Michael Barrette (Shari), all of Coventry, and numerous cousins. A graveside service with military honors will be held Monday, December 20, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in the New Coventry Cemetery, Rte. 31, Coventry. There are no calling hours.
