John Dudek Sr., of Mansfield Center, died Saturday morning, March 27, 2010 at the Windham Hospital. He was born May 18, 1920 to Stephen and Justyna Dudick, originally from Poland. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Helen (Piontek) Dudek, his brothers Harry and Peter and his sisters Evhena Dudick, Anna Dudick Steeves, Edith Dudick Socha, Victoria Dudick and Stephana Dudick, (his twin sister). He is survived by his son John Dudek Jr. and his wife Wanda Dudek of Lebanon, his three grandchildren, Tami Huard of Cloverdale, VA, Tiki Baca of New Britain and Ben Dudek of Columbia and seven great grandchildren, Myakka, Alexis, Hannah, Lilly, Venora, Seth and Rachel. He graduated from Windham Technical School. John had been employed at the American Thread Co., American Screw Co., and worked in the construction field doing exterior and interior construction with various local contractors including George Harakaly, Charles Sibly, A and J Construction, Fred Shumara, John Okoney and Arnold Skerberg. He was a member of the Polish-American Club in Willimantic. John served in the Merchant Marines during World War II with whom he traveled extensively. He was known for his garden and the vegetables that he grew and gave away to friends and family. His family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Rte. 195, Willimantic on Tuesday March 30th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow in the Windham Center Cemetery.
