John C. Polglase

July 14, 1942 — August 21, 2017

John C. Polglase, 75, of Columbia, CT, died Monday August 21, 2017 at home surrounded by his family. He was the son of the late Burton C. and Vivian(Mettling) Polglase, was born in Chicago and was a graduate of White Plains High School. He attained his BFA from Carnegie Tech. He taught in the theater Depts. at Pomona U. (CA), Ryder College (NJ), Colby Jr. College (NH), and Boston University. Subsequently, John worked in sales for theatrical and emergency lighting (Capron, Swivelier, Dual-Lite, and Concealite). After retiring, John was a dedicated and passionate volunteer at Covenant Soup Kitchen and the No-Freeze shelter in Willimantic. He was a member of the Columbia Congregational Church and affiliated with Middlebury Congregational Church. Besides his family and the theater, he loved cooking and helping others. He is survived by his wife, Reverend Betsey Hinchman Polglase, his daughters Rebecca Bronwyn of Seattle and Abigail Jean (son-in-law Patrick) Lynch of Scituate (MA) and grand-daughter Hannah Jane. He is predeceased by his only brother Burton. There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held Saturday August 26, 2017 at 10:30am at the Columbia Congregational Church, 325 Rte. 87 Columbia, CT 06237.
