John Obsharsky, 89 of Windham, passed away February 6, 2013 at Douglas Manor. John was born September 15, 1923 to the late Selvestor and Anna Obsharsky of Willimantic. John grew up in Willimantic and later moved to Mansfield where he and his wife Patricia raised their family. John attended Windham schools and graduated from Windham Tech with a certificate in Machine Drafting. John worked at Electro Motive for 25 years as a draftsman. In addition, he owned Lamorts News Stand for many years, where he and his wife worked. John retired at the age of 75 from the Keeper Corporation. John also served during World War II in the 34th Army Infantry. In his spare time, John enjoyed many hobbies including, woodworking, playing cards, watching the Boston Red Sox, the New England Patriots, and UCONN Basketball. In addition, he enjoyed going to the Plainfield Dog Track and even purchased a racing dog and named her Pojo Thunder, an acronym for their names. Before becoming ill, John made his home in Canterbury with his daughter and son-in-law Paula and Steven Kukevitch. John was predeceased by his wife Patricia, a sister Mary Lewis, a brother, Paul Obsharsky and his two sons, Gary and Mark Obsharsky. John is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Steve Kukevitch of Windham, four grandchildren and one great granddaughter as well as his beloved dogs Jesse, Joey and Sam. He also leaves the many friends he made at Douglas Manor, especially nurse Ashley and a nurse's aide, Jackie.
