John Mikolaw, 88, of Columbia, died Saturday April 4, 2009 at Windham Hospital. He was born to William and Mary (Wasylyshyn) Mikolaw on Dec. 13, 1920 in New York, NY. Years later in CT, he and his parents owned a poultry farm. After retiring from farming, be became a self employed house painter. John leaves his niece Estelle G. Ouellette and grandniece Linda J. Ouellette both of Columbia; as well as his nephew Jean-Marc Ouellette who resides at the Rocky Hill Skilled Nursing Home, Rocky Hill, CT. John also leaves many friends in the Columbia area and was predeceased by his sister Sylvia Gamache, two months ago. John enjoyed music, bowling, playing baseball and going deep sea fishing. He was a charter member (1947) of the Columbia Volunteer Fire Dept. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held on Monday April 13th at 10:30am in New Willimantic Cemetery, intersection of Rte. 6 and Rte. 32 Willimantic.
