John Marchese Obituary
John W. Marchese, 89, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2024. John was born in Willimantic, the loving son of the late Guy and Angie Banks. He stayed in Willimantic until joining the Army and was proud to have served his country in the Korean War. He married his beloved wife, Joan, on November 22nd, 1956, and, after his 38-year career with Mobil, they retired to Lebanon, living there for the last 28 years.

John liked to keep busy, active in his community and a member of countless clubs, most notably the American Legion. He enjoyed many activities such as kayaking, spending precious time with friends and family, and volunteering at St. Joseph’s Living Center, which he did for close to 20 years.

A social butterfly, John also spent many mornings with his breakfast club. You could often find him wandering from table to table so he could be sure to visit with all his friends and chat the morning away.

Alongside his wife, John is survived by his loving sons John Jr. and James, wife Mindy, Marchese. Also left to remember him are his grandchildren Janet, Tyler, and Jonathan; great-grandson Aiden; sister Teddy Gunther; and many nieces, nephews, wonderful friends, and the best neighbors anyone could ask for. He was predeceased by his daughter Marie-Louise, daughter-in-law Robin, and sisters Maggie and Ann.

Services will be on Tuesday, May 28th with a funeral mass to be held at 11am at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St., Willimantic. Burial will be private, at the convenience of the family, and a Celebration of Life will be held, date to be determined. The family requests no flowers, knowing that John would prefer a donation in his name to St. Joseph Living Center.
