John J. Knapp

John J. Knapp, 79, of Old Willimantic Rd., Columbia, died Tuesday Oct. 16, 2001 at home. He was born Dec. 12, 1921 in Elizabeth, N.J. the son of Bartholomew and Anna (Marek) Knapp Tomasek. He was a U.S. Army veteran of W.W.2 and had been employed by the State Highway Dept. for 20 years as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of St. Paul s Episcopal Church in Willimantic, the Beckish Senior Center, the Columbia Historical Society and a life member of the VFW Post # 1724. He and his wife Dorothy (Chowanec) Knapp would have been married for 55 years on Oct. 19th. In addition to his wife he is survived by a son and daughter in law John G. and Ginette Knapp of Burke, VA., 4 grandchildren; Dennis, Tracy and Derek of Burke, VA. and Pvt. 1st. Class U.S. Army Kyle of Columbia and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son Michael and a sister Frances Pfau. His family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. Willimantic on Thursday from 6:00 to 9:00pm. The funeral will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 11:00am with burial following in the West St. Cemetery, Columbia. In lieu of flowers, his family suggests memorial donations to either the American Cancer Society, 238 W.
