John Henry Hayes, Jr

John Henry Hayes Jr., 72, of Naples, FL passed away December 23, 2015. He was born to John Sr. and Nora (O'Callaghan) Hayes in Manhattan, NY on May 10, 1943. John graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School, and received an Associate's degree from Pace University. After high school, John proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. John resided in NY from birth through 1974, stopped in the Willington, CT area before settling in Naples, FL in his twilight years. He worked as an 'over-the-counter' trader for 20 years, and he was an electrician in the state of FL before retiring. John was most passionate about being a grandfather and watching his grandkids participate in their sporting events. He loved to cook, teach his grandkids how to golf, enjoyed watching NY Giants, NY Mets, and UConn basketball. John Henry was loved for his sense of humor and always finding the positive in the toughest of what Life throws at one. He was always there for family and friends, and was most kind and generous. After 30 years of courageous fights with multiple illnesses, he's finally succumb. John Henry is now, after 35 years, reunited with his first and true love, Patricia! While sadness tempts us here, Pat got the greatest Christmas gift ever. John is survived by his children, daughter, Theresa (Hayes) Fleming and husband Douglas (US Navy Retired) of Windham, CT and their children: John and wife Janelle, Shawna, Second Lieutenant Addison (USMC), Zachary, Nathan, and Dakota, son, John Hayes III and wife Mary Ellen, and their daughter Elizabeth of Walpole, MA, son, Michael Hayes and wife Kathy and their sons Thomas, and Ryan of Cheshire, CT, son, Matthew Hayes and children Matthew Jr., Sophia, Valorie, and Gabrielle of Fairlee, Vermont, and daughter, Hope Garcia and her two sons of Anaheim, CA. He also leaves behind his brother, Thomas Hayes, and wife Tracy of Brick, New Jersey, and sister, Nora McGill, and husband William of Somerset, New Jersey. He will be greatly missed by his cousins, nieces and nephews. Connecticut Services: The family will receive friends and relatives, Wednesday, December 30, 2015 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic, CT. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, December 31, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St., Willimantic, CT. There will be a small reception in the church hall immediately following the mass. New York Services: The family will receive friends and relatives, Saturday, January 2, 2016 from 8:00-9:30 a.m. at Riverdale Funeral Home, 5044 Broadway, NY, 10034.
