John F. LaTerra, 85, of Echo Dr., Willimantic, husband of Maria (VanWemmel) LaTerra, died Sunday July 14, 2002 at home. He was born July 11, 1917 in Thompsonville, the son of the late George and Pauline (Scillian) LaTerra. He was retired from UConn and had been previously employed at Pratt & Whitney in E. Hartford. Mr. LaTerra was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran serving his country during W.W.2. He was a life member of Gold Star Post 1724 VFW, and a member of the DAV and the Moose Lodge #1440. He was also a life member of the Willimantic Elks Lodge. In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 daughters and sons in law; Christine and David Lyons of Bolton, and Gina and David Allen of Columbia, 4 grandchildren; Jessica and Timothy Lyons and Jarus and Jillene Lazeski, a brother Joseph of Willimantic, a step brother Ivo Guarco of Windham, a nephew Richard and 2 nieces Lauren and Karen. His family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic Tuesday from 6:00 to 9:00pm. His Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday at 11:00am at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St. Willimantic, with assembly at the church. Burial will be private in St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham. In lieu of flowers, his family suggests memorial donations to Hospice of Eastern Ct., 34 Ledgebrook Dr., Mansfield Center, Ct. 06250 or to St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St. Willimantic,Ct. 06226.
