John "Jay" Crum Iii

July 25, 1953 — July 1, 2009

On July 1, with his family by his side, John Crum III passed away at home in Columbia after a short, but courageous battle with cancer. Jay was born in Willimantic on July 25, 1953. He resided in Columbia and Windham. He enjoyed a lifetime career as a truck driver just like his father. He was an avid photographer and a racing enthusiast. He loved the beach and the New York Yankees. He was predeceased by his father John Crum. He leaves his mother, Regina Crum, brother Christopher and sister -in law Jeanne Crum, all of Columbia, sister Cheryl Hines of Windham, sister Cathy Haverty and brother in-law Dennis of Long Island, New York, sister Jessica Blem and brother in-law Michael of Nokomis, Florida. He also leaves nephews Jansen Crum, Cody Shea and James Blem, nieces Cassie and Molly Blem. He leaves his aunts and uncles Stephen and Joyce Rinn, Ronald and Joan Stavinsky, Ann DeGray , Steven and Leslie Gamache. He is survived by many cousins. He also leaves behind his beloved birds, Bonnie and Peanut. Our family wishes to thank the many family and friends who were a great comfort during this difficult time. We would also like to thank his amazing Nurse Kathy Killarney. Calling hours are on Tuesday July 7th at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Willimanitc from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. On Wednesday July 8th there will be a Celebration of Life at the Willimantic Elks Lodge in Willimantic starting at 5:00pm.In lieu of flowers donations may be made to VNA East-Hospice 34 Ledgebrook Drive Mansfield Center, Ct 06250.
