John Chapman Sr. Obituary
John Anthony Chapman Sr., known affectionately as “Crazy John or Chappy”, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2024, in Chaplin, Connecticut, at the age of 83. Born on September 8, 1940, in Norwich, Connecticut, he was the cherished son of the late Chauncy and Jennie (Barbetta) Chapman. John's life was a testament to the values of hard work, humor, and love, which he shared generously with all who knew him.

He was a devoted brother to Walter and his wife Jane, and a special friend to Jackie Ausberger, who held a treasured place in his heart. John was a proud father to his sons, John Jr. and his wife Helene, and Thomas and his wife Diana. His legacy continued through his five grandchildren, John Chapman III and his wife Erin, Jennifer Chapman, Anthony Chapman, Caitlin Chapman, and Emilly Chapman, and he was overjoyed to see his family grow to include five great-grandchildren, Jace Haley, Sophia Chapman, John Chapman IV, Evah Chapman, and Eliana Chapman. John will also be fondly remembered by his niece Janine Paige and nephew Walter “Guy” Chapman.

John spent his entire career mastering the craft of welding, a profession that not only showcased his skillful hands but also his steadfast dedication to his work. He was the proud owner of Chapman Welding.

Beyond his work, John had a passion for NASCAR racing. The thrill of the race, the roar of the engines, and the sense of community among fans brought great joy to his life. It was a hobby that perfectly matched his personality—vibrant, energetic, and full of life. In recent months he enjoyed watching old western shows. John loved hanging out at The Bach Dor Café with friends over the years.

The loss of John Anthony Chapman Sr. will be felt deeply by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

As we bid farewell to John, we celebrate the remarkable journey of a man who was truly one of a kind. His story does not end with his passing but lives on through the cherished memories he created with each person he met. Rest in peace, John; your legacy will continue to inspire us all.
