John William Carpenter

John William Carpenter, of Columbia, died Tuesday Feb. 4, 2014 at the age of 97. He was born Aug. 19, 1916 in Willington the son of the late Edwin C. and Rachel (Cleveland) Carpenter. He attended local schools and graduated from Windham High School. John worked for the State of CT Forestry Dept. for several years and then 38 years at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft. He was predeceased by a daughter Gai Carpenter of Amherst, MA and two brothers, Charles and Edwin. He is survived by his devoted wife of 72 years Marjorie. There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held on Saturday Feb. 8th at 2:00pm at Willington Hill Cemetery, Rte. 74, Willington.
