John Baker Obituary
John Mitchell Baker, born April 20, 1941, in Butte, Montana, passed away suddenly at his home on June 15, 2024.
John was an avid reader and a life-long learner. He loved travel, spending time at the beach with family and friends, hiking, and fine dining. He was an accomplished classical pianist. John was a lover of animals, especially birds, and had a deep connection with Bandit, the family border collie.
He graduated from Idaho Falls High School, then received his bachelor’s degree at the University of Idaho. Following this, he obtained his master’s degree from San Francisco State at Berkley and earned his PhD at the University of Connecticut in German History.
John will be deeply missed by his wife of 42 years, Mary Anne (Griscom) Baker. He is also survived by three sons Matthew, Nathaniel, and Benjamin; a daughter-in-law Christina; and three grandchildren Jacob, Thomas, and Elsa. A memorial service will be held at First Church of Christ Congregational, 549 Storrs Rd. in Mansfield on July 3rd at 11:00 AM.
