Johanna Mae "Joan" (Johnson) Hoyt, 75, of Inverness, FL, formerly of Willington, died Tuesday Sept. 23, 2003 at home. She was born June 28, 1928 in Roxbury, MA., the daughter of P. John and Katie Belle (McIntyre) Johnson. As a young girl, Joan moved to Maine to reside with John and Florence MacMullen and grew up in Skowhegan. She attended MT. Merici Academy in Waterville,ME., graduated from Skowhegan High School and was in the Cadet Nurse Corps at Sisters Hospital in Waterville. During her early years Joan was an avid tap dancer and roller and ice skate dancer. She retired from the Windham Hospital in Willimantic in 1988. After moving to Florida in 1989, she worked for 10 years at Citrus Memorial Hospital. Joan was a past president of Green - Chabot - Richardson American Legion Auxiliary, a Past Matron of Climax Chapter #98 OES in Merrow and was a member of Inverness Chapter #65 OES in Inverness, FL. Joan was a member of the First Baptist Church of Inverness, a former W.M.U. Director and worked on many committees. She is survived by her husband of 54 years James R. Hoyt Sr., 6 children; Lois A. Hartenstein and her husband Richard of Stafford, Sandra Bussiere and her husband Edward of Willington, twins James R. Hoyt Jr. and his wife Betsy of Pawtucket, R.I. and Judith Daley and her husband John of Willington, Laurie Dolce and her husband Albert of Quitman, GA. and Thomas Hoyt and his wife Kim of Stafford, 14 granddaughters, 7 great grandsons, 5 great granddaughters, 2 sisters; Natalie McMenamin of Pompano Beach, FL. and Florence Johnson of Lenox, MI. She was predeceased by a sister Muriel Pari and a brother John C. Johnson. Joan was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed sewing, crocheting, embroidery and was an avid reader. Her family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00pm. Her funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 1:00pm with burial following in the Willington Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, her family suggests memorial donations to Hospice of Citrus County 3350 W. Audubon Park Path, Lecanto, FL. 34461-8450.
