Joan Shea Obituary
Joan Marie (White) Shea, 85, of Windham, CT, wife of the late Richard Shea Sr., passed away on August 6, 2023. She was born in Windham on February 21, 1938, to the late Harold and Marie (Jenkins) White Sr.
She lived her whole life in Windham, CT, and graduated from Windham High School in 1955. Joan was a devoted wife to Richard, having spent 49 years together before his passing. Together they provided a loving home to their six children, raising their family in Willimantic. Her love and support for her family continued as she became a grandmother and great-grandmother.
She worked for many years as an administrative assistant in a local surgical practice and was a lifelong parishioner of St. Joseph Church. As a proud member of the Willimantic Irish Club, she joined with friends and family in celebrating her Irish Heritage. Joan additionally was a member of the Willimantic Paints and Palettes, and her paintings remain cherished items passed on to her family.
She is survived by her three sons, Richard Shea Jr. and his wife Susan, Robert Shea and Jonathan Shea; 15 grandchildren, Ryan, Scott, Matthew, Marc, Allen, Sarah, Owen, Madison, Camden, Tyler, Cody, Mitchell, Danielle, Zachary and Jeffrey and 10 great grandchildren.
Joan was awaited in heaven by her daughter Judith Shea-Ursin, sons Steven and Thomas, two brothers, Harold White Jr. and Rand White and her granddaughter Elizabeth Shea.
In lieu of flowers, the family request, plant a tree in Joan’s memory. Joan’s family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Willimantic. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at 10:00am at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St., Willimantic, burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham.
