Joan Alice Stavinsky

Joan Alice ( Hills) Stavinsky, 67, of Columbia, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2011 following a long illness. Joan was born in Hartford on November 10, 1943 to Morgan and Ellen Hills, who predecease her. She graduated from Windham High School in 1961 and attended the Morse School of Business in Hartford. Joan was married to Mr. Ronald Stavinsky. They enjoyed a wonderful and loving marriage for 39 years, supporting and sustaining each other through the good times and through periods of sadness. They were blessed with 3 children; David Albert, Jennifer Ann, Robin Dawn (deceased) and a step daughter Debbie Dupuis. Joan cherished and enjoyed her time with her two grand children; Allen Scott and Jason Robert. Additionally she is survived by a special son-in-law, Richard Paul, two sisters, Beverly Ellen and Judith Ann and a brother, Morgan Addison. Joan was a long time resident of Columbia. She spent much of her teen years enjoying summers on Columbia Lake with her friends. Later as a wife and mother, Columbia Lake was enjoyed for family time and raucous 4th of July parties. Joan was an avid gardener throughout her life. In her later years, she transformed her house and yard into a tranquil and serene home for her and her extended family to enjoy. Calling hours will be at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Rte. 195, Willimantic on Friday, May 6, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00pm.
