Joan A. Jahnes, 85, of Willimantic, wife of the late William Jahnes Sr., died Thursday, November 1, 2007 at the Windham Hospital. She was born September 11, 1922 in New Britain, the daughter of Clarence and Alice (Butler) Wessels and had lived in Willimantic and Black Point, Niantic most of her life. She was a graduate of Central Connecticut State University and began her teaching career in Lebanon. She retired from the Windham School System after many years teaching in the Natchaug, Sweeney and Windham Center Elementary Schools. She is survived by two children, Susan Ferraro and her husband James of Hamden, William Jahnes Jr. of Black Point, Niantic, two grandchildren, Elizabeth Ferraro and Christopher Ferraro, a sister, Janet Conway of Santa Clarita, CA, a niece and special goddaughter, Christine Jahnes of Pittsboro, NC, many other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Wessels. Her family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Rte. 195, Willimantic on Monday, November 5th from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the procession to her Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, Willimantic. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham.
