Joan Ethridge Obituary
Joan Ann Ethridge, beloved wife of David Ethridge, passed away on July 1st. She and David shared 65 wonderful years of marriage. They had pet names for one another. She called him "sweet cheeks" and his nickname for her was "babe." They loved each other to pieces. She leaves behind two devoted sons, Ronald and wife Judy, Bill and his wife Darlene. She is also predeceased by her son Stephen. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Joshua Ethridge and Jenna Ethridge, Frank and Sarah Perry and two great grandchildren Vanessa Perry and Frank Perry and several nieces and nephews. A woman whose infectious laugh could be heard over the din of a bingo hall, has left us to join the great wine tasting session in the sky. Born on July 24, 1938, in Hartford, Joan's bright spirit entered the world with a sparkle that would rival the finest champagne. She sauntered off this mortal coil on July 1, 2024, in Norwich, having lived a life as rich and satisfying as her famous apple pie.
A proud graduate of Windham High School, Joan was a whiz with numbers and people, a combination that served her well as the most charming bank teller Columbia ever had. Her customers often left with a smile, a lollipop, and occasionally, the correct amount of money. Joan's laughter was a currency that bought her a wealth of friends and an endless supply of good times.
Joan's kitchen was her stage, and she played the role of culinary maestro to perfection. Her baking and cooking were the stuff of legend; her secret ingredient was always a dash of humor. She grew her own vegetables with the same care and attention she gave to her jokes—organically and with plenty of manure.
In the garden of life, Joan was a perennial favorite. When she wasn't tending to her tomatoes, you could find her dabbing at bingo, her competitive spirit as fierce as her love for a good Moscato. A connoisseur of the grape, Joan's wine tasting events were less about the bouquet and more about the laughs shared around the table.
Joan's passing is like the last slice of pie at a family picnic—bittersweet and gone too soon. She leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and the secret to the flakiest pie crust this side of heaven. So here's to Joan—may her memory be a reminder to enjoy the little things in life, like a good joke, a well-timed bingo call, or the perfect glass of wine. Cheers, Joan. You will be missed, but your recipes—and your punchlines—will live on forever.
