Joan Gilbransen Obituary
Joan Gilbransen, nee Farrell, died peacefully on December 23, 2021. Born in 1939, Joan was a life long resident of Willimantic, CT. She is survived by her husband, George Gilbransen; son Christopher Gilbransen and his son John; daughter Karen Gilbransen; niece Pamela Adams and her children, Rachel and Tyler. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their children.
Joan retired from the University of Connecticut’s Office of Diversity and Equity and while during her retirement she was presented with physical challenges her love of family and friends was never diminished. Nor was her sense of humor or warmth. Joan’s poise and strength even in her final days will serve as a lesson in grace to her family.
She was the daughter of the late Evelyn and John Farrell and was predeceased by her siblings Lorraine MacDonald, Jay Farrell, Donald Farrell, and Barbara Bradley. Her family takes comfort knowing that they are together again.
The family would like to thank the staff on the 4th floor of Windham Hospital who took such good care of her.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you consider making a donation to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
Calling hours will take place on Wednesday December 29th 2021 from 4-6:00PM at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. Willimantic. A funeral Mass will be Celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church in Willimantic on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at 1:00PM.
