Joan S. Dempsey

Joan Stapleton Dempsey, 82, of Lebanon, went home to be with the Lord unexpectedly on August 30, 2015. She was born April 15, 1933 to Fred and Eulilla Stapleton in Greenville, SC. Joan was a graduate of Victory Bible College. She retired after 20 years from Dining Services at UConn, happily being a "mom away from home" for many students. Joan was a longtime member of Light on the Hill Christian Church where she served on the Hugs committee as well as both the prison and convalescent home ministries. Joan never met a stranger and was known for her sincere care and concern for others. She was a fervent prayer warrior and we know as a family she prayed for each of us daily. While she will be dearly missed here, we draw comfort knowing she is in heaven in the presence of her Lord and Savior reunited with her family walking those streets of gold. Joan is survived by two daughters, Allison Dempsey and LeAnn Thibeault and her husband Joe, all of Lebanon. "Grammy" leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Colin Sayers and fiancAC.e Heather Pofok of Windham, Kyle and Alicia Thibeault of Belchertown MA, Kayla Thibeault of Lebanon, Kory Thibeault of Oakland CA, Kevin Thibeault of Boston, MA and her "adopted" grandson Niyi Fisayo. Joan was predeceased by her parents and both brothers, Pete and Larry of Greenville, SC. Joan's family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday September 3, 2015 from 1:00pm to 2:00pm at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic, CT., with her funeral service beginning at 2:00pm at the funeral home.
