Joan Anita Beaudoin

May 15, 1938 — December 16, 2002

Joan Anita Beaudoin, 64, of Windham, departed peacefully from this life on Monday, December 16, 2002, surrounded by her loving family following a courageous fight with cancer. Joan was the daughter of Thomas W. Shea and Lena (Kennison) Shea. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Francis Beaudoin and three children, daughter Donna Doherty and husband Jerry of South Windham, son Donald Beaudoin of Windham, and son Michael Beaudoin of Florida, Joan had four wonderful grandchildren who brought her her greatest joys, Jared and Shana Doherty, Shay and Amanda Beaudoin. She will be greatly missed by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Elmer and Olive Shea of Columbia, Thomas and Lois Shea of Florida, Richard and Joan Shea, Francis and Nancy Shea of Willimantic and Sandra Shea of Windham. Joan was predeceased by her brothers James and Leo Shea, stepsisters Hazel Coriarty and Lenora Wyrock. Joan also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews to whom she devoted a large part of her life, as well as many dear friends. Joan was born on May 15, 1938. After raising her family, she retired from the University of Connecticut so she could devote her time to her grandchildren and her many interests. She was a member of the local VFW and American Legion Clubs. She spent many hours volunteering in benefits for these organizations; perhaps her most enjoyable were those when she was cooking with her granddaughter. Joan was an avid sports fan and loved playing bingo. Probably her favorite sport to watch was her grandson progressing as a baseball player. Perhaps the most important aspect of Joan?s life was her unique ability to be there for all the members of her family. She has been described as the knot that held everyone together. When her family members were in need, they were comforted knowing they could "just call Joan." She will be missed more than words can express. Her family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Her funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. with burial following in the Windham Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, her family suggests memorial donations to the American Cancer Society, 238 West Town St. Norwich, CT 06360.
