Jerald M. Doherty, (80) husband of Constance D. Doherty (predeceased) passed away Monday, October 20th, 2014. Jerry was born on June 17, 1934 in Portland Maine, twin son of May Evelyn Doherty (Lawson) and Gordon Charles Doherty. Though no one knows for sure, it is believed Jerry may have died of a broken heart after losing his wife "Connie" (the love of his life), in April, 2013. Jerry & Connie married in July 1954; they settled down raising their 6 children in So. Windham, CT., they were married 59 years. A carpenter by trade, Jerry was a self-employed skilled craftsman; for many years he specialized in building and remodeling homes in CT. In later years, he was employed by General Dynamics, where he worked as a carpenter tradesman at Electric Boat in Groton, CT. He retired from EB after 21 years of service. Soon after retirement Jerry and Connie bought a 2nd house in Florida, traveling south each October to spend the winter months in the warmer climate. There they would attend special holiday events, play bingo and attend dances featuring their favorite country music at the Teakwood Village Club House. Jerry loved being active, for years him and his children would meet each Sunday morning at Windham High School to play a pick-up game of baseball. He would then take his best friends, Pepper, a Black Labrador Retriever, and Jessie, an Irish Setter, and treat them to ice cream at Uncle Kens. He loved camping with his family, where he would spend the day throwing horseshoes, and peddling his classic style Schwinn bicycle, which he restored and called his "Cadillac". Jerry also had a passion for bowling; he was a member of Willi Bowl, he belonged to two bowling leagues, in addition to open bowling with his family each weekend. Jerry is survived by his children and their families. Michael Doherty & Tracy, of Carlisle, PA., Jerald Doherty & Donna, of So. Windham, CT., Barbara Gilblair & Darryl, of Windham, CT., Richard Doherty & Kathleen, of So. Windham, CT., Steven Doherty & Jennifer, of So. Windham, CT., and Kenneth Doherty & Tracy, of Lebanon, CT. He has fourteen grandchildren, Stephanie, Carrie and Ian, all residing in PA., Jared, Shana, Bryan, Shawn & his wife Gillian, Chelsea, Nathan, Courtney, Jonathan, Lindsay, Haley & Emma all residing in CT., and 4 great grandchildren, Allison, Dominic, Gabrielle & Kalia. Jerry was passionate about and loved all living animals; he rescued 2 abandoned cats, Cuddles and Mittens, whom he adored. They now have a new home with Jerry's son Richard & his family. He is delighted, for sure! The family will have a private ceremony graveside at the Windham Center Cemetery on Friday, October 24, 2014.
