Jennie H. Mallon, 80, of Manchester, formerly of Willimantic, widow of George Mallon, died Tuesday April 13, 2004 at the Windham Hospital. She was born November 12, 1923 in Willimantic, the daughter of Michael and Anna (Pienta) Stygar and had lived in Willimantic until the death of her husband when she moved to Manchester to reside with her daughter, Kathy. Mrs. Mallon was very proud to be a World War II veteran serving as a Navy Wave. She took her nursing training at Hunter College and was stationed at Brooklyn Naval Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. After the war she was employed for several years as a dental assistant to the late Dr. Harry Fox. Jennie then devoted her life to raising her family. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who took special pride in being her daughters' best friend. She was an avid fan of the UConn Men and Women?s Basketball teams. She is survived by 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Walter Choptij of Manchester, Mary and James Dow of Centerville, MA, a sister, Olga Delany and her husband Franklin of Bolton, 4 grandchildren, Brian and Matthew Choptij, Jennifer and Erin Dow, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia, a sister, Loretta Wadsworth and 2 brothers, Edward and Frank Stygar. Her family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Rte. 195, Willimantic on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. There will be a gathering at the funeral home on Friday at 10:15 a.m. prior to the procession to her Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, Willimantic. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham. Jennie's family wishes to thank the caring nursing staff on the fourth floor at Windham Hospital for the comfort they brought to their mother.
