Jennie "Jane" Hodges

Jennie Jane L. Hodges, of Columbia, widow of C. Prescott Hodges, died Monday, July 18, 2005 at the Windham Hospital. She was born in Providence, RI, the daughter of the late John R. Chatto and Annie (Fogitt) Chatto. She was a graduate of Hope High School and the Kathryn Gibbs Business School, both in Providence. She was employed as an executive secretary to the president of the former Narragansett Brewery Company in Cranston, RI. She moved to Columbia over 50 years ago. Prior to her retirement in 1974, she was employed at UConn as an executive secretary to the Dean of Home Economics. She was also employed by the late Attorney Elizabeth Hutchins of Columbia. Mrs. Hodges was a member of the Columbia Congregational Church and started their Memorial Book. She was an active member of the Columbia community serving as a co-Cub Scout Leader, a member of the 36 Club, the Bottle Club and often worked at the polls. Jane loved to bargain hunt. She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Betty Hodges of Columbia and her beloved pets, Sugar and Robin. She was predeceased by a son, John W. Hodges and a brother, Howard W. Chatto. Funeral services and burial will be private. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor s choice.
