Jeffrey A. "Buck" Smith

Jeffrey "Buck" Alan Smith, 59, of Willimantic, husband of 33 years to Janet (Haddad) Smith, passed away on March 12, 2011 at Windham Hospital. Jeff was born in Willimantic, the son of the late George D. and Margaret E. (Moran) Smith. He graduated from Windham High School, class of 1969. Jeff is survived by his two daughters Julie Marie Maneggia and her husband Billy of Manchester and Jacqueline Lynch and her husband Shawn of Vernon. Jeff was retired from the University of Connecticut, where he had worked for over 30 years in the Computer Operations Department. He was a long time member of the Willimantic Elks Club. He was an avid fan of UCONN basketball and the N.Y. Giants, and for many years traveled with a group of friends to the Big East basketball tournament. He enjoyed his annual vacations with his family and friends at Misquamicut Beach, and at his sister Barbara's home in Branford. Jeff's humor, and his big heart, will be missed and was enjoyed by everyone who loved him. He is also survived by his sisters Mary Courtney of Mansfield and Deborah Yanavich and her husband Michael of Willimantic and many nieces and nephews who were very dear to him. He was predeceased by his sister Barbara Smith. His family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday March 17th between 3:00 and 4:30 with a memorial service beginning at 4:30 at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic. In lieu of flowers, his family suggests memorial donations to Windham Hospital, 112 Mansfield Ave. Willimantic, CT. 06226 or to Willimantic Firefighters Local #1033, P.O. Box 115, Willimantic, CT. 06226
