Jeannette B. Mazzola

April 2, 1922 — June 9, 2009

Jeannette B. (Lacouture) Mazzola passed peacefully on June 9th in the comfort of her home on Prospect Hill, Willimantic. She was born on April 2, 1922 in Lowell Massachusetts, daughter of Armand Lacouture and Rose Guerin. She was one of five daughters, sisters Lillian Milner, Claire Sczurek, Pauline Marcotte, all predeceased her and she is survived by Doris Jacobs of Nashua, New Hampshire. Jeannette married Mariano "Mike" Mazzola in 1943, widowed in 2001 after fifty-eight years of marriage. She lived most of her life in Willimantic. Jeannette is survived by a daughter, Sandra Ann Murphy and husband Raymond Murphy of Willimantic, her son, Michael Mazzola of Willimantic/Athens, Greece. She leaves her caring and loving granddaughter Colleen Major and husband Guy Major as well as her treasured great grandchildren, Andrew and Alyson Major, of Mansfield, grandson, Brian Murphy of Seattle ,Washington, numerous nephews and nieces. Jeannette was known for her tenacious and persistent approach to life. A petite but determined lady who expressed herself with direct honesty and candor to the end of her life, having all her wit and verbal acumen about her at all times. A woman of her time, Jeannette asserted her individual rights before it was fashionably acceptable. She worked as a supervisor at the Electric Motive for a decade. Eventually she was to following her passion for European cuisine, inspired by her Italian mother-in-law, finding a niche at the University of Connecticut where she worked for two decades. Our loss is incomprehensible. Following a private family viewing at 9:00 a.m., her family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Willimantic on Friday, June 12th from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the procession to her Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, Willimantic. A private burial at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford will follow at 1:00 PM. Donations may be made to your favorite charities or organizations.
