Jean E. Spooner, 83, of Chaplin, died Friday, July 12, 2013 at the Windham Hospital. She was born in Chaplin in October 6, 1929, the daughter of the late Alfred T. and Grace (Atchinson) Hall. In 1931 her family moved to Central Village. Jean attended the Wauregan Grammar School and was a 1947 graduate of Plainfield High school. After graduating, she worked at the F. W. Woolworth Co. in Danielson for ten years. On May 18, 1956, she married Arthur E. Spooner in the Chaplin Congregational Church and returned to Chaplin to live. Arthur Spooner died in 1998. Jean was the bookkeeper for her late husband's building business from 1959 until his retirement in 1983. She was an avid traveler, having completely toured all 50 states as of 2007. She also loved to play Yahtze and cards. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dale L. and Marilyn Spooner of Ledyard, a nephew, Donald Hall of Metairie, LA, three nieces, Joan Raymond and her husband Tom of North Kingstown, RI, Barbara Shubert of Palm Coast, FL and Linda Adamson and her husband Fred of Andover. She also leaves two step-grandsons, Scott Mayo and his wife Jennifer of Canaan and Mark Mayo and his wife Kimberly of Versailles, two step great grandchildren, Dylan and Spencer Mayo of Canaan and her dear friend Veronica Hairgrove of Texas. She was predeceased by four brothers, Milton, Alton, Frank and Lester Hall, three sisters, Katherine Crane, Alice Curry and Ethel Hazen, three nephews, John H. Curry Sr., James L. Curry and Roger Hall and a niece Dorothy (Hall) Simonds. Her family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Rte. 195, Willimantic from 9:00 to 10:00 AM with funeral services beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow in South Chaplin Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
