Obituary

Jaye Waldron Fletcher, a public servant, advocate, EMT, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 22nd following injuries sustained in a fall.

To know Jaye was to know kindness, strength, and a heart dedicated to helping others. Whether responding to emergencies as an EMT, while serving with the Ashford Fire Department, advocating for victims through the Connecticut Office of Victim Services, or simply being there for a friend in need, Jaye always put others before herself.

Jaye was predeceased by her husband and best friend, Bruce S. Fletcher.

She is survived by her children, Melissa Jaye Osborne, Rachel M. Zagurski, and Stephen C. Fletcher; her grandchildren, Ayden, Joshaua, and Amelia; her brother, Michael Waldron; and her sister, Donna Dupree, and many extended family members, friends, colleagues, and community members whose lives were enriched by her presence.

Away from her years of service, Jaye found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved spending time outdoors in the warm sunshine, taking cruises, and visiting the beach. One of her favorite pastimes was sitting by the ocean with a book in hand—though those who knew her best knew she was often more interested in people-watching than reading. She delighted in observing the world around her and never missed an opportunity to strike up a conversation or share a smile.

Nothing, however, brought her greater happiness than being “Grammie.” Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

Her story is not measured by the years she lived, but by the countless lives she touched. Her love, generosity, and fierce spirit will remain with us always. May we honor her memory by caring for others as faithfully as she cared for all of us.

A Celebration of Life will be held on July 17th, 2026, at the Ashford Fire Department from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. Please come share your favorite story or memory of Jaye. In lieu of flowers please make donations to:
