Janis Cemers, 91, of Willimantic, passed away at St. Joseph Living Center on Friday June 13, 2014. He was born in Latvia the son of Eduards and Karline Cemers and was one of four children.Janis was the devoted life-long partner of Mara Anthony and the beloved brother of Spodra (Cemers) Brekte. Janis was a member of the Latvian Lutheran Evangelical Church in Willimantic. He belonged to the Connecticut Latvian Sportman's Club as a hunter and fisherman as well as being the treasurer. During his life he worked as a carpenter and was an avid gardener. He was predeceased by his brother Arnolds and sister Arija. In addition to Mara and Spodra, he is survived by many cousins, nieces, great nieces, grandchildren, great grandchildren, Godchildren and other relatives in Australia, Latvia and here in the U.S. His funeral service will be held at the Latvian Lutheran Church, 76 Windham Rd., Willimantic on Thursday June 19, 2014 at 11:00am. Relatives and friends are welcome to arrive at 10:30 the greet the family. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
