Janice L. Walencewicz

Janice (Lyon) Walencewicz, 85, of Mansfield, and formerly of Willimantic, passed away Monday January 2, 2017 peacefully with family. Janice was born on February 25, 1931 in Mansfield, CT to the late Wilfred and Rhea (Phaneuf) Lyon. She married Paul Herman Walencewicz on August 20, 1955 and they shared 59 years of loving marriage. In 1968 Paul and Janice started their fire protection business, P&J Sprinkler Co., and in 1973 Janice opened her own Electrolysis practice. She leaves behind her four children, David Walencewicz and his wife Jodi of Windham, Peter Walencewicz and his wife Hope of Groton, Mark Walencewicz of Indian Wells CA and Melinda Walencewicz of Mansfield. Janice touched the lives of her beloved grandchildren; Sasha Walencewicz, Noemi Walencewicz, Aubrey Haboush, Elayna Lyon, David Walencewicz, Joseph Walencewicz, Mackenzie Walencewicz, Rye Walencewicz, and John Paul Walencewicz. She is survived by her sisters Bernice Smith Hewes and Joyce Smith as well as her dear friends, Steffie, Jeannie, Carol and Pricilla. Janice is predeceased by her brothers, Alan Lyon, Bruce Lyon and David Lyon. Janice was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Her infectious smile and love for life was felt by everyone. Janice enjoyed spending time with her family, sewing for her granddaughters, dancing and being the life of any party or gathering. We have lost the living example for the true meaning of ?Kindness?. Janice was kind, generous, considerate and friendly to all people. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made in memory of Janice Walencewicz to St Joseph Church in Willimantic, CT, American Cancer Society or Alzheimers?s Assocation. Family and friends are invited to calling hours Thursday, January 5th, from 4:00 ? 7:00 pm at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St (Route 195), Willimantic, CT. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 6th, at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Church located at 99 Jackson St. Burial to follow at St. Joseph?s Cemetery.
